The Cultural Center of the Philippines presents the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, Manila 2013 on August 7-10, 2013 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the world renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers and to honor its founder National Artist for Music Andrea O. Veneracion, one of the pillars in the promotion and development of choral music in the country. The Festival will see the fruition of the first international choral competition in the history of the art of choral music in the country. The Cultural Center of the Philippines commissioned NILO ALCALA to write the official contest piece for the Chamber Choir Category. The composition is entitled "Three Kalingga Chants" based on the following indigenous tunes: Wiyawi, Salidumay, and Mambayu. WEBSITE, click here: Andrea O. Nilo Alcala was invited to Korea by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to attend the Asian Traditional Music and Dance Workshop. Appointed by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Alcala represented The Philippines in a convention of composers from 11 different Asian countries, August 12 to 23, 2012.
